RESPAWN

A spinning planet with purple water and green land

What is it?

Respawn is an ongoing webcomic that released in November of 2019 and has since stretched on to a full prologue and 5 chapters posted out of the planned 11. There will be three other stories after the first one is finished.

It centers around Kris Verdego and his story in a barren, futuristic Earth with aliens from an orbiting rogue planet. These aliens are called Namus or Namulians, named after their planet of Namulia. Namus are, essentially, reincarnated dead humans. They are created from natural Namulian resources and parts from dead namus and are designed around a human's memories. Namus finish spawning when the human stops producing memories.

Respawn gets intense and has clear themes of relationships, loss, and grief. You can read the comic here or on Tumblr.

How did I get into Respawn?

February 13th, 2021. I remember that day well. I had been watching the amazingly made Moss flipnote for days on end, when I finally decided to click the link in the description and give Respawn my complete attention. I remember I had read a little bit of it before, but never really got invested. This time however was incredibly different than my last. Immediately I fell in love with the worldbuilding and characters from just the prologues. As I read more and more, I felt so attached and connected with everyone in the comic. I cried when they cried and I smiled when they smiled.

At this point in time, only the third chapter was out. I was mesmerized by how such a short webcomic could be so captivating! I poured all of my focus into learning everything about this comic. I scowered old Tumblr posts from the creator, watched every flipnote involving it, did everything in my power to invest myself totally in Respawn. And I succeeded! Respawn has been a hyperfixation ever since 2/13/2021 :-)

Why am I so into this?

Honestly, everything about Respawn is why I love it so much. The Respawn System and all it's nuances, the mystery that vignettes every character and detail, the relationships between the people in the comic? It's everything It's all I've ever wanted in media!

Respawn is special to me because as soon as I finished the first chapter I had already felt a very special connection to the characters and their story. They have such captivating designs and dialogue, it seems as though everyone will find a character that they enjoy and relate to. That along with the setting and fast-paced plot make this comic perfect for me.
